Fees & Insurance

Counseling Shouldn’t Come With Financial Guesswork

Understanding the cost of counseling can sometimes feel almost as stressful as deciding to begin.

We want you to have clear information about fees, insurance, and lower-cost options so you can make a decision that works for you.

Inner Solace offers counseling at different fee levels based on clinician experience, accepts a variety of insurance plans, and offers additional options that may make counseling more accessible.

Have questions? It’s okay to ask about cost before scheduling.

Private-Pay Counseling Fees

Our private-pay rates vary based on the experience and licensure level of your counselor.

Looking for a Lower-Cost Option?

Cost shouldn’t be something you’re embarrassed to ask about.

Inner Solace offers counseling at different clinician experience and fee levels, including our $50 graduate counseling intern option.

Limited sliding-scale availability may also be offered when appropriate and available.

If cost is one of the things making you hesitate to reach out, tell us.

Choosing to Pay Privately

Insurance isn’t the right option for everyone.

Some clients choose private pay because they don’t want to use insurance benefits, prefer greater privacy regarding their counseling, have an insurance plan we don’t participate with, or simply find private payment more straightforward.

Choosing private pay doesn’t change the quality of your counseling.

Your clinician’s applicable private-pay rate will be discussed with you before services begin.

Payment for Counseling

Payment for your portion of services is due according to Inner Solace’s financial policy. Depending on how you’re paying for counseling, this may include your private-pay fee, copay, coinsurance, deductible amount, or another client responsibility determined by your insurance plan.

You’ll receive more detailed information about payment, cancellation, insurance, and financial policies as part of the intake process.

Using Insurance for Counseling

Inner Solace Counseling works with a variety of insurance plans.

Your individual cost will depend on your specific plan and benefits. Depending on your coverage, you may be responsible for a copay, coinsurance, deductible, or another portion of the session fee.

Having insurance doesn’t always mean counseling is free.

Before beginning services, we encourage you to understand your behavioral-health benefits, including:

  • whether Inner Solace or your individual clinician is in network
  • your deductible and how much has been met
  • your copay or coinsurance for outpatient mental-health services
  • whether authorization is required
  • whether there are limits on the number or type of sessions covered

Insurance coverage varies by plan, even within the same insurance company. Information provided by an insurer is not a guarantee of payment or coverage, and clients remain responsible for charges not covered by their plan.

Insurance Speak, Translated

Copay
A set amount you pay for a covered appointment, such as $20 or $40.

Deductible
The amount you may need to pay toward covered healthcare services before your insurance begins paying according to your plan.

Coinsurance
A percentage of the allowed cost that you pay after applicable deductible requirements have been met.

In Network
A provider who has contracted with your insurance plan.

Out of Network
A provider who does not participate in your plan’s network. Some plans may still reimburse part of the cost.

Still confused? You’re in very good company.

Insurance benefits can be surprisingly difficult to interpret. You’re welcome to contact us with questions about using your coverage at Inner Solace.

Out-of-Network Benefits

If Inner Solace or your clinician is not in network with your insurance plan, you may still have out-of-network mental-health benefits.

Depending on your plan, your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion of the cost after you pay for your session.

When appropriate, we can provide documentation you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Questions to ask your insurance company:

“Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental-health counseling?”

“What is my out-of-network deductible?”

“What percentage is reimbursed after my deductible?”

“How do I submit a claim for reimbursement?”

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Benefits

Some employers provide a limited number of counseling sessions through an Employee Assistance Program, often called an EAP.

If you have EAP benefits, your employer or EAP provider can tell you how many sessions are available and whether Inner Solace or a particular clinician participates in your program.

If you’ve been given an authorization number or other information from your EAP provider, please have it available when contacting us.

Good Faith Estimates & the No Surprises Act

If you are uninsured or choose not to use insurance, federal law gives you the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of your healthcare services.

If you receive a bill that is substantially higher than your Good Faith Estimate, federal protections may give you the right to dispute the charge.

No Surprises Act

Prioritizing transparency in your healthcare journey, Inner Solace Counseling provides good faith estimates before you schedule an appointment. This estimate outlines the anticipated costs of your therapy session, including our standard fee and any potential out-of-pocket expenses based on your insurance coverage. Having this information upfront empowers you to make informed decisions about your mental health care and ensures there are no surprise bills. If you have any questions regarding the good faith estimate or your insurance coverage, please don’t hesitate to ask our friendly staff. We’re here to help!

Still Not Sure What Counseling Will Cost?

That’s okay.

Insurance benefits can be confusing, and choosing between insurance, private pay, different clinician levels, and lower-cost options can feel like a lot to sort through before you’ve even met a counselor.

You don’t have to figure it all out before contacting us.

Tell us what you’re looking for and what concerns you have about cost. We’ll help you understand the options available through Inner Solace so you can make an informed decision about what works for you.
